REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Minister of Trade, Gita Wirjawan said many illicit smartphones, smartphone devices and the latest tablets were sold in Indonesia. Those gadgets are smuggled into Indonesia illegally.

Wirjawan held a inspection to some electronic shopping centers in Jakarta. He found many latest products such as Blackberry Z10, Q10 and Apple Ipad Mini tablet didn't have warranty card, label license and manual in Indonesian language. Those gadgets should have been sold in Malaysia and Singapore as there is no translation in Indonesian language on the warranty card.

"Some products were sold with fake or duplicated warranty cards," Wirjawan said on Thursday. The electronic products that entered Indonesia illegally and not registered officially not allowed to be sold in Indonesia.

Wirjawan estimated that Indonesia lost trillion USD due to smartphone smuggling. Hence, government will coordinate a trans sector investigation and the perpetrators would be accountable.  Based on data from Ministry of Trade, imports of mobile phones in Indonesia reached 2,099.415 billion USD in 2012 and 30 percent of it is illegal.
