Indonesian pencak silat athletes get nine gold medals in Belgium

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG - Indonesian pencak silat athletes got nine gold medals at 'the Belgian Open Martial Arts Championship' which ended last week, coach of Pencak Silat Association of Indonesia, Indro Catur said, on Wednesday.

"We won nine gold medals, two silvers, and three bronzes," Catur said. Indonesia deployed 15 athletes so that only one athlete who didn't get medal. The event was held Scholen Sporthall and 11 countries took part including Vietnam, Malaysia, Suriname, France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Indonesia and Belgium. 

Pencak silat is Indonesian traditional martial arts. Pencak is the performance aspects of the martial art, while silat is the essence of the fighting and self defense. 

Catur said that the victory was only a test to face 2013 Sea Games in Myanmar. "We were grateful to be a champion, but our main goal is to win Sea Games n Myanmar," he said.
