REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) projects that non performing loans (NPL) may increase significantly in 2013. The increase is caused by global economy and government's plan to rise fuel price.

Executive Director of Department of Banking Research and Regulation at BI, Mulya Siregar said that central bank projected that NPL to rise 1.6 to 2.1 percent, higher than 1.5 percent to two percent as projected before. "The gobal situation has not been stable yet. That's why the NPL may rise significantly," he said on Sunday.

BI also predicted that credit would slowdown this year by 21.7 to 23.6 percent than previous year, 22.5 to 24.3 percent. Central bank also revised its prediction that growth of third-party funds (DPK) slower, from 17.5 to 18.5 percent became 17 to 17.9 percent.

NPL's increase was seen at the Regional Development Bank's data. NPL of Regional Development Bank in February 2013 has jumped 53 basis points from 1.96 percent to 2.59 percent in same period last year.
