Mitsui invests to develop bread market in Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Mitsui Global Investment will invest in Asa Foods, a bread distributor based in Indonesia, and develop its product in Indonesian market as the domestic demands increase 20 percent in the last three years. Asa Foods is a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co Ltd, one of the largest trading houses in the world from Japan. 

"Mitsui will own 19 percent of company stocks and put Danareksa Capital as co-investor," said President Director and Chief Executive Officer Asa Foods, Andreas Susanto on Friday. 

Mitsui will hire some technical advisors from Japan to assist the development and product management. Asa Foods currently has a factory in Industrial Estate Sentul, Bogor, West Java. It sells bread with subscription system which through grocery stores and cafes in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.

Susanto said that his company planned to get 96 billion IDR as revenue in next four years. Based on data from Indonesian Bakery Association 2011, market of bread in Indonesia reached 27 trillion IDR or grew 15 percent in 2012.
