REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Vice President Boediono signalled that government would soon announce the fuel subsidy. The decision is expected to lift up uncertainty that lingers about the price of fuel.

"I hope we can soon issue a decision to erase the uncertainty. However, for today I have nothing to announce," Boediono said on Wednesday.

The Chairman of Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), Sofjan Wanandi, said subsidy for fuel had hampered Indonesian foreign exchange reserves. "For the sake of our nation, we support whatever the decision is," Wanandi said.

He added that the employers tend to support the increasing price of fuel because of some reasons. They are afraid that the policy to limit subsidized fuel consumption will lead to other problems. The high gap between subsidized and non-subsidized fuels is also prone to fuel smuggling.

However, as a compensation for increasing fuel price, Apindo asks government to lift up high economic cost for employers by reforming law and bureaucracy.

A member of Commission XI at the House of Representatives, Arif Budimanta, said the decision on fuel policy was in the hand of the president. Yet, Budimanta reminded that the increasing price of fuel could give a big impact to all people.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, emphasized that government still discussed the compensation should they increased the fuel price. 'We haven't reached final decision," he said.
