REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR - A member of Bali Parliament predicts the island tourism sector will slow down in 2013 due to global economic condition.

"It tends to be stagnant or even declining sharply," A member of Commission IV at Bali House of Representatives, Tjokorda Raka Kerthiyasa, said on Monday.

Internal factors, mainly fast-paced development of tourism accommodation in Southern Bali, also contribute to the condition. Bali is considered having too many hotels and villas in the South part of Bali, such as Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, Jimbaran, Kedonganan, and Tanjung Benoa.

"There is no comprehensive master plan for tourism development in Bali. Such condition leads to imbalance development in Northern and Southern Bali," he said.

He criticized regional government as they easily issued permit to build new hotel without further consideration on its capacity. He emphasized that sooner or later Bali tourism would be stagnant or declining sharply without good management.
