REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Government will ban poultry import with China. The virus of avian influenza that attacked poultry in East Java allegedly came from China, Vice Minister of Trade, Bayu Krisnamurthi, said. "This is a new kind of avian influenza. It seems more dangerous to ducks," Krisnamurthi said on Wednesday.

Indonesia is also ready to shut the trade with countries suggested by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), such as Vietnam and Nepal. Indonesia currently has banned imported poultry from Australia.

In 2005, Indonesia faced an outbreak of avian influenza that killed hundreds of poultry. A year later, it spread to human. Vice Minister said Indonesia must be aware of similar case.

Ministry of Agriculture has conducted serious investigation to monitor the recent development. It predicts that the virus is still in Java Island.

Director General of Domestic Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Gunaryo, has coordinated with Department of Trade and Industry in Java Island to monitor the trade of ducks and chickens. Inter-island trade will be restricted if it is needed.
