REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PUTRAJAYA - Indonesia and Malaysia agree to increase trade value up to 30 billion USD by 2015. The target is set up based on the increasing economic activity of both countries.
"We still have room to strengthen economic cooperation in long term," Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Tuesday during joint press conference with Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in Putrajaya, Malaysia, as reported by M Ikhsan Shiddieqy from Republika.
Prime Minister Najib explained the ambitious target of 30 billion USD was reflecting sincere commitment of Malaysia and Indonesia to rise economic cooperation. He believes that economic integration will be stronger.
SBY and Najib are proud to see the surging economic relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia. For example, bilateral trade rises to a billion USD this year.
Indonesia is the third biggest trade partner among ASEAN countries for Malaysia. Trade value reaches 18.3 billion USD in 2011, while the number of Indonesian tourists coming to Malaysia in that year is 134,381.
SBY visited Malaysia to attend the 9th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation. Malaysia and Indonesia will discuss on Indonesian workers, borders, trade, education and investment.
