REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Commission VII of House of Representatives approves additional quota of fuel in the amount of 1.23 million kilo liters (kl). The amount consists of 730,000 kl premium and 500,000 kl diesel fuel.

The decision was made in a meeting with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik on Monday. It is the second time that government adds the quota of subsidized fuel in 2012. In state budget 2012, the quota was only 40 million kl but the government asked for additional 4.04 million kl in September.

Chairman of the meeting, Effendi Simbolon, said that the House approved the proposal with several notes. He said that government must conduct audit of procurement and distribution of subsidized fuel. House also asked government to order the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to investigate.

Secondly, government must monitor the distribution of fuel. Simbolon said that the addition must be the last.

Meanwhile, Wacik said several issues forced government to ask for more quota. Car sales, he said, was one of the reason. The sales are surpassing the prediction.

A big gap between the price of premium and pertamax is another problem. People choose to buy premium, the subsidized fuel, as it is far cheaper than pertamax.

"Another reason is that we have not converted oil fuel to gas fuel because Ministry of Finance has not approves the multiyears proposal," he said.
