Bali exports smoked salmon

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUTA - Fishery products from Bali seem ready to enter international market as they set international standardization of various products. This early October, Bali starts exporting smoked salmon to Malaysia.

"It is the first time for Bali and Indonesia (to export smoked salmon –Ed)," the Head of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Department in Bali, I Gede Gunaja, said on Monday.

He explained that Bali imported the Salmon from Japan. Balinese entrepreneurs only cook the salmon then export it to Malaysia. Korea, China, and Middle East countries are expected to be the next targets for export.

The volume of Balinese fisheries export is quite big, especially for tuna with about 90 percent of the total catch is exported. "We export tuna in frozen, fresh, and canned," he said on the sidelines of “The 32-nd Session Codex Commitee of Fish and Fishery”. 

The volume of Balinese fisheries export in 2011 reached 28,259 tonnes with the transaction on 124 million USD. Meanwhile, the export volume until June 2012 has reached 13.900 tonnes with transaction on 59.2 million USD.
