Indonesia tasked to explore APEC's food diversification

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR - Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) held a workshop on Thursday entitled 'The Potential of Local Resources and Establishing Network Among Agricultural Research Centers on Food Diversification' in Bogor.

The workshop is aimed to discuss the concept of sustainable development with local resources based and promote agriculture sector to improve people's welfare. It is alongside with Indonesian leadership in APEC 2013 to reach sustainable growth with equity.

Minister of Agriculture Suswono said the workshop was to continue Indonesian commitment towards Action Plan on Food Security on APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security in Niigata, Japan, 2010. Indonesia is responsible to draft important points related to world's food security problems.

Suswono said Indonesia planned to demonstrate to the world that the food materials could be generated from anywhere, even from home garden. Indonesia already has the model known as Sustainable Food House Region (KRPL).

The model will be adopted by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). "The initiative is our breakthrough towards climate changing," he said.
