Bayuwangi Airport to be prepared for APEC 2013

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister of Economy Hatta Rajasa plans to expand Bayuwangi Airport in East Java to support international-scale event. "Banyuwangi Airport is expected to be the facilities of next APEC in Bali on November 2013," he said on Friday.

Banyuwangi airport -serving commercial flight- is planned to be an aircraft parking lot for APEC participants. The airport is the perfect choice because the nearest airport to Bali.

Banyuwangi will be also developed into special economic zone (KEK) for special industry. The head of Banyuwangi Regency, Abdullah Azwar Anas, expressed his hope that his region could be the economic satellite city for the eastern part of Indonesia.

"Industrial development in Banyuwangi will be boost using local empowerment policy," he said. The policy means using the potency of local human resources, local organizations, and also local natural resources.
