REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - The former Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad recommends ASEAN countries to sit altogether and seek the solution for Muslim Rohingya. He said that ASEAN countries have good record on resolving the conflict in Myanmar.

"To stop the iron fist, Myanmar was recognized as a member of ASEAN and it worked," Mahathir Mohamad said after giving public lecture in Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta on Tuesday.

He also said Malaysia found it hard to repatriate Rohingya refugees (some may call them internally displaced persons –Ed) in Myanmar as they were not recognized as Myanmar's citizen. The number of Rohingya people in Myanmar is quite big. "We will discuss it with Myanmar government so that they can accept Rohingya people," he said.
