REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian government actively promotes its tourism sector through to Indian investors to make movie here. Vice Minister of the Ministry Sapta Nirwandar, said that on Monday.

Movies, he explained, was a good media to introduce culture and lifestyle as well as an effective tool to promote tourism. Nirwandar said that more, India seems to be interested in Indonesian movies and vice versa. "We have so many islands which offer amazing natural beauty, such as Bali which becomes more famous after a prominent production house took a scene in Bali," he said, referred to Eat, Pray, Love movie starred by Julia Roberts.

He noted that the contribution of movies as a subsector of creative economy towards Gross Domestic Product was relatively small. He said that Indonesia opened the opportunity for Indian movie producers to invest in Indonesia, especially if they were interested in taking the scenes in Indonesia.

He admitted the lack promotion of Indonesian movies to India, but the Ministry had facilitated the meeting of Indonesian and Indian film producers to pave the way towards cooperation.

"In the near future, we will try to broaden the opportunities with India, starting from preproduction of the movies until the distribution of Indonesian movies in India," he said.
