REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - International Conference for the Freedom of Al Quds and Palestine is being held in Bandung on July 4-5. Several countries, such as UK, Palestine, Philippine, Malaysia, Sudan, and Indonesia attend the conference.

"I hope the conference can resurrect the anti-colonialism spirit and unite the countries to fight colonialism," West Java Governor, Ahmad Heryawan, said on the opening of the conference on Wednesday.

Heryawan said the conference was related to Asia Africa Conference on April 18-24, 1955 because Palestine was the only country in Asia and Africa which had not achieved freedom. "Bandung is the right place for this conference. Asian African Conference indeed was held 57 years ago, but we still have the spirit of the victory," he said. Indonesians are also longing for the freedom of Palestine.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Marzuki Alie, said the Palestinian victory could not be achieved without the unity in Palestinian people. "On my visit to Palestine some time ago, I said to Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh that the Palestinian freedom could not be achieved without the unity of the people in Palestine," Alie said.

He added, Muslims had the responsibility to protect Al Aqsha Mosque in Al Quds and defend the suppressed Palestinians. This conference is also expected to yield constructive thoughts on Palestinian liberation. The result will be sent to UN as a recommendation in General Assembly.
