REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Guinness World Records in London officially records Borobudur Temple as the largest Buddhist temple in the world. "Borobudur is officially recorded with the claim number 396-198 in Guinness World Records in London, UK," the Director of Borobudur Prambanan Ratu Boko Parks, Purnomo Siswoprasetjo, said on Wednesday.

The record is conducted on June 27, 2012. This temple was also added to UNESCO's World Heritage list number 592 in 1991.

The official certificate is on its way from London to the central office of Borobudur Prambanan Ratu Boko Parks in Yogyakarta. Siswoprasetjo hopes that the world will be more familiar with this temple, which built between AD 750 and 842.

"We expect to get some support especially in marketing and international promotion because Guinness has ranging world events," he said and explained, it took three months from the registration to the verification of the temple.

Currently the visit rate to Borobudur is increasing. In 2011, the number of tourists coming to this 60,000 m3 stone structure reaches 250,000 or increasing on 15 percent compared to 2010. He also waited for the verification of Prambanan Temple and Sendratari Ramayana (traditional dance drama bout epic Ramayanan –Ed).
