West Sumatra holds Rendang Festival

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG - Culture and Tourism Department in West Sumatra holds Rendang Festival from June 25-27. "Rendang is a culinary that should be preserved by people of West Sumatra," the Vice Governor of West Sumatra, Muslim Kasim, said.

He said, rendang was not only symbol of creativity in cooking, but also an effort to develop national culture. "This is traditional food with particular taste. We should introduce it to the world as an effort to develop our national culture," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Development of Tourism Destination in the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Achyaruddin, said government had registered rendang as cultural heritage to UNESCO. "It is registered on 2010 with the number of registration in 776," he said.
