REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – An archeologist team from Medan, North Sumatra, found a 7,400 year-old fossil of ancient man in Ujung Karang Jongok Cave, Centrak Aceh. As cited on www.setkab.co.id, the Head of the Team, I Ketut Wiradiyana, said the team had conducted a research in Ujung Karang Jongok Cave since 2010 because the site was believed to contain many thousand year-old fossils.

It was proven in 2009 when the team successfully located 3,500 year-old human fossil in Mendale Cave. The further research then found five fossils in Ujung Karang Cave, near Mendale Cave. Three of them might be dead in 17 year-old, while the might be much older.

Wiradiyana ensured that the latest fossil had the DNA of Gayo and Karo from Aceh. Besides the fossil, the team also found 7,400 year-old remains of woven textile. Due to the findings, the Regent of Central Aceh, Mohammad Tanwier, asked for central government's help to make the site announced as nature preserve. He also expects government acquire the area near the location.
