REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The halal stamp on Indonesian products could gain its potency as some non-Muslim countries also eyed on halal business, a member of Research, Study, and Development Board (LP3E) of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anas M Fauzi, said. Some countries have utilized halal stamp to expand the export.
“In Indonesia, we only utilize the stamp to protect local market,” Fauzi said on Tuesday in the discussion of “Halal and Safe Food on the Effort to Protect the Consumer and Improve the Competitiveness”.
Some countries, such as Malaysia and Thailand, have tightened the halal standard. The halal stamp also improves the product’s competitiveness, for example Thailand even uses the stamp to enter world markets.

He urged government to improve the synergy of the institution on the supervision of food safety to protect the consumers as Indonesian products were sometimes rejected because it did not meet quality requirements.
Another member of LP3E, Suharyadi, said National Agency of Drug and Food Control did not even have a baseline data of all drugs and foods in Indonesia. But, the budget has been allocated since 2010. Indonesia also urges the completion of law draft on halal products.
