REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Ministry of Education and Culture will pour 10 million USD to help the financial of United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). On the first stage, the 6 million USD fund was yielded on UNESCO Executive Board Forum in Paris, France, last Friday.

The fund was signed officially by the Minister of Education and Culture, M Nuh, and General Director of UNESCO, Irina Bokova. In the press relese, M Nuh said the grant was conducted in two stages. The first stage was in the form of emergency fund in the amount of six million USD to help UNESCO cover the financial deficit and the money would be managed by UNESCO.

"The rest in about four million USD will be given on 2013 in the form of fund-in-trust and managed by the ministry and UNESCO," Nuh said on Monday. "Our proposal fund can be used to pay the certain programs in ASEAN, Africa, and Palestine," he added.

UNESCO granted the membership to Palestine on October 31, 2011, despite the strong rejection from the United States and Israel. The US then stops its funding to UNESCO, which consequentlty undermines the UNESCO operations.
