REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The police as an institution the most human rights violators during the 2011 period, according to the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas-HAM) said in Jakarta, last Monday.

"In 2011, the Commission received 6,000 complaints from the people but only 4,000 cases were processed further. Among the number, the police were the institution people had complained about most," Komnas-HAM Chief, Ifdal Kasim, said at a meeting with members of the House of Representatives from Commission III.

Ifdhal said the Commission received a total of 1,262 complaints from the people against the police during the 2011 period. He said the number was an indication that supervision by the police`s internal affairs did not run well.

"If not handled properly, the number of violations by the police will keep growing," he said.

The chief added complaints related to land dispute placed second as the most cases reported to Komnas-HAM while corporate dispute took third place. “The scale and quality of human rights violations in Indonesia in 2011 had increased in 2011 compared to 2010," he added.
