REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri told would-be PDIP legislative candidates about the struggle and values of their party in a briefing here on Sunday. Megawati explained what PDIP is, its values, struggle and history, said Johan Budi who is one of the would-be legislative candidate on the sidelines of the briefing.

On the occasion, Budi said, Puan Maharani, one of the PDIP leaders, gave an emphasis during the briefing on the legislative election system which is now different from the previous ones.

She therefore asked the would-be candidate to remain solid in the field, so that PDIP's legislative and presidential candidates would win the race.

PDIP has picked up incumbent President Joko Widodo as its presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election.

"You should be solid, including in bringing Joko Widodo to win the election. It is PDIP which named Joko Widodo as its vice presidential candidate," Maharani said in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to Johan Budi, cadres who joined PDIP now have different backgrounds. The nationalist party's ideology is new being implemented with the joining of several (Islamic) religious figures who became cadres.

"So the perception that PDIP is far from Islam is not true," he said.

Besides it was attended by party leaders, the briefing was also attended by President Joko Widodo.
