REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has inaugurated the operations of the first data center mirror site abroad in Seoul, South Korea. The Seoul Data Center is located at the Indonesian embassy, according to a foreign ministry's press release received here on Friday.

At the signing of a plaque marking the inauguration of the data center, Minister Marsudi emphasized the importance of speed in service and data security.

Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Umar Hadi noted that the Seoul Data Center offers an innovative concept and is integrated and interconnected with the central data in Jakarta.

"The Seoul Data Center is hoped to improve the quality of service and information system performance of the foreign ministry," he stated.

Data at the Seoul Data Center will be synchronized in real time with that at the data center in Jakarta. The foreign ministry has cooperated with PT Telkom Indonesia in developing the Seoul Data Center.

After the inauguration, Foreign Minister Marsudi conducted an inspection of various facilities at the embassy, such as the system of data collection and service to citizens, such as passport extension, filing of complaints, and handling of citizens' problems.

Marsudi emphasized the importance of citizens' protection, which is one of the priorities of the country's foreign policy.

Out of the 37 thousand Indonesian citizens in South Korea, 33 thousand are migrant workers, with education levels, ranging from junior high to university, spread across that country.

"In view of this, the embassy has continued to innovate to develop a service system and correct facilities with regard to the condition of workers and aspects in South Korea," he added.
