REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Pekanbaru Station's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected 140 hot spots. It indicated that forest and land fires (Karhutla) occured in Riau Province.
Based on BMKG data obtained in Pekanbaru on Sunday, it was observed that the hot spots surge in Dumai City in the last 24 hours period reached 67 points. This figure is the highest in the last two weeks of the occurrence of forest and land fires in the region.
In addition to Dumai, the presence of hot spots with large numbers was also observed in Rokan Hilir Regency with a total of 42 points. However, the existence of hot spots in Rokan Hilir has actually much declined compared to this week which had touched the 100 hot spots.
"The hot spots were also observed in Bengkalis, 12 points, Pelalawan six, Rokan Hulu and Indragiri Hulu, respectively four and one point in Kampar and Kuansing," said Head of BMKG Sukisno.
Furthermore, in addition to detecting 140 hot spots monitored through imaging Terra and Aqua Satellites in Riau, BMKG also stated that it had also detected hundreds of other hot spots in a number of provinces in Sumatra.
Among them are 35 hot spots in South Sumatra, 32 points in Lampung, 28 Bangka Belitung. Next 15 hotspots in North Sumatra, nine points in West Sumatra, five points each in Aceh and Jambi and three points in the Riau Islands.
Meanwhile, out of 140 hotspots in Riau Province, BMKG stated that 68 of them were ascertained as hot spots or a strong indication of the presence of forest and land fires with confidence levels above 70 percent. The only hot spots are still in the coastal areas of Riau, such as Dumai, Rokan Hilir and Bengkalis.
"Most hot spots were observed in Dumai with 37 points, then 17 points in Rokan Hilir and Bengkalis six points," explained Sukisno.
In addition, the hotspots were observed in Pelalawan two points, Rokan Hulu two points, Indragiri Hilir three points, and Indragiri Hulu one point.
Deputy Commander of the Riau Karhutla Task Force, Edwar Sanger, ensured that all personnel continued to fight, even though today was a holiday. "There is no holiday for the Karhutla Task Force. We are still working on blackout operations in the burned area," said Edwar.
He said the fire fighting on Friday focused on coastal areas, namely Rokan Hilir Regency and Dumai City. "Today's blackouts are in Rokan Hilir and Dumai. Good regards 247," Edward said while using the term 247, which means continuing to work without stopping 24 hours a week.
