MUI expects election candidates to uphold ethics, morals

MUI hopes all elections candidates to present the best behaviour.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chairman KH Ma’ruf Amin expressed hope to general elections in 2019. He expected that Indonesia would have an honest, fair, order, and peaceful elections.

“MUI expects all election candidates to obey the rules and uphold ethics and morals, also to present the best behaviour (akhlaqul karimah)," said Kiai Ma’ruf during the 43rd anniversary reception of MUI and groundbreaking of MUI Tower in East Jakarta on Thursday (July 26).

He also expected that general elections in 2019 will be democratic. In addition, Ma’ruf also said the elections should be avoided from the inappropriate manners or violating the law.

MUI hoped the elected members of House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), Regional Representative Council (DPD), and president and vice president will be the best candidate and able to carry the mandate of the people. Therefore, they can bring Indonesia to progress and benefit under Allah SWT protection.

“MUI expects our nation to remain intact and united despite its political choices in 2019 elections,” Kiai Ma’ruf added.
