KPK to summon witnesses in Riau-1 project graft case

All parties involved directly with bribery case in Riau-1 project to be summoned.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will immediately examine a number of witnesses related to an alleged bribery case in Riau-1 coal-fired power plant (PLTU) construction project. The anti-graft body to summon the witnesses this week.

“KPK will summon a number of witnesses related to investigation process of the case as soon as possible, at least this week or next week,” said KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah on Tuesday (July 17).

However, Febri refused to reveal names of witnesses to be questioned by KPK. He stressed that parties involved directly with the case will be summoned.

Earlier, KPK had searched a house belongs to State Electricity Company (PLN) President Director Sofyan Basir in Central Jakarta on Sunday (July 15). The search also conducted at a number of other locations, such as Golkar Party lawmaker Eni Maulani Saragih's house. KPK also searched the house, apartment, office of businessman Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo.

On Monday (July 16), KPK had searched three locations. Those consisted of Eni’s workplace, PLN headquarters, and also the office of power station Java Bali (PJB) Indonesia Power.

KPK has named Eni as corruption suspect along with the person who allegedly offered the bribe, Johannes who is one of the shareholders at energy firm BlackGold Natural Resources Limited. KPK also seized Rp 500 million as evidence.

Johanes as alleged bribe giver is suspected violated Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a or letter b or article 13 Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Eradication Corruption, also Article 64  paragraph (1) Criminal Code (KUHP).

Meanwhile, Eni as alleged receiver of bribe is suspected of violating Article 12 letter a or Article 12 letter b or Article 11 Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Eradication Corruption, also Article 64  paragraph (1) Criminal Code (KUHP).
