REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMOSIR -- Fourteen passengers of KM Sinar Bangun have been reported being saved and taken to a hospital. The boat capsized on its way from Samosir to Simalungun, North Sumatra, on Monday.

"So far, 14 people are safe. Eleven of them are being treated at a community healthcare center in Simarmata and three others at Hadrianus Sinaga regional hospital," the Secretary of the Health Service of Samosir district, Jalamar Sitanggang, stated when Antara asked for confirmation of the report on Monday afternoon.

Sitanggang remarked that the search for other passengers was still ongoing. He revealed that a total of 80 passengers were on board when the incident happened.

The wooden boat that carried them was on the way from Sinanindo port to Tigaras when it capsized. Strong wind around Lake Toba paid contribution to the accident.

He explained that some passengers chose to jump into the waters when it happened. Some others had been saved by KMP Sumut, which passed by near the location.

A survivor, Fernando Sianturi from Lubuk Pakam, North Sumatra, explained that he was about to return to Lubuk Pakam after taking a holiday at Samosir island in Lake Toba.
