REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Suliyono, the man who attack Santa Lidwina Bedog church, Sleman District, Yogyakarta Special Region, allegedly influenced by radical teachings. National Police chief Tito Karnavian disclosed the possibility at Jakarta Metro Police headquarters on Monday (Feb 12). "He once lived in Poso, Central Sulawesi Tengah and Magelang, Central Java," Tito revealed.

According to Tito, there was strong indication Suliyono learned teachings that support violence. Suliyono even ever had a plan to go to Syria, but he failed to realize that.

"He tried to apply for a passport for travelling to Syria, but he did not succeded. Finally, he attacked 'infidel' of his own version," Tito explained.

However, the police still investigating Suliyono's identity, whether he was a 'lone wolf' or linked to certain terrorist network. 

Suliyono carried a sword and attacked Santa Lidwina church during a mass service on Sunday (Feb 11) morning. Four people wounded in the incident. Two of the victims were the church's congregation, namely Yohanes dan Budijono. Meanwhile, the two other victims are a priest from Germany named Romo Prier and a police officer named Munir.

The police shot Suliyono who tried to resist. He was rushed to Gadjah Mada University hospital, Sleman for treatment. Suliyono was not a nearby resident. From his bag, police noticed that Suliyono carried a graduation certificate. The 22 years-old man was known to live in Krajan, Kandangan, Pesanggrahan Banyuwangi, East Java.
