REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Narcotic Agency (BNN) and Customs and Excise Directorate General busted a Malaysia-based drug syndicate and seized 110 kilograms (kg) crystal of methamphetamine and 18 thousand ecstasy pills from a Medan prison convict Toge. The drugs were seized from three different locations during a joint operation conducted by the BNN and directorate general in Aceh and North Sumatra from Jan 20 to Feb 5.
Inspector General Arman Depari, the deputy chief of BNN, noted in a short message, here, Wednesday, that nine people were detained during the operation. The drugs were smuggled into Indonesia from Malaysia aboard boats.
Toge, a death penalty convict currently being jailed at the Tanjung Gusta penitentiary, is believed to have masterminded the smuggling of drugs.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Force shot dead a drug dealer, who was a part of a network involved in the trade of illegal substances in Malaysia, Riau, Padang, and Jakarta.
The perpetrator was identified by the initials DO and was carrying 25 kg of crystal methamphetamine.
"DO attempt to resist (arrest) and grabbed the officer's firearm," Head of the Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Argo Yuwono noted in Jakarta, Monday evening (Feb 6).
Apart from DO, the Jakarta Police Drug Detective Unit also seized HW, known as Sinchan, as well as EP.
Director of the Jakarta Police Drug Detective Unit Police Chief Commissioner Suwondo Nainggolan revealed that the force had initially arrested DO at the Sentral Hotel in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.
