REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the relocation of capital from Jakara to Kalimantan need ten years of preparation. It cannot be relocated before completing all the facilities.
"It is impossible for only relocate two departments to Kalimantan. It is impossible, all should be completed before trasferring as the the government was linked each other," he said at his office on Friday (July 7).
The distance might also be a concern. Kalla exemplified that Malaysian Government relocated its capital for only 30 kilometers away from Kuala Lumpur. But it only relocated the ministry offices. The parliament, military unit and Malaysian Supreme Court were still in Kuala Lumpur.
The government had ever discussed the plan to relocate the capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan. Kalla said the same plan might be planned carefully as Indonesia was a big country. Federal countries might have small capital, such as Australia, US, Myanmar, and Malaysia.

"Malaysia is a federal country. The problems of businesmen were never be the problems of central goverment, but the local one," he said.
Kalla said after regional autonomy, Indonesia could implement the similar system. But, practically all things were still controlled by the local government.
However, Kalla appreciated the effort to relocate the capital. But, the plan should be discussed carefully based on he Indonesian recent condition.
Kalla added that it needed to think about facilities for more than 900 staffs. Seeing that it needed much funds to realize it, the relocation might not only be conducted because of the traffic jam and flood.
"If there was traffic jam, resolve it but not relocating the capital. Repair and speed up the system by using MRT, LRT, and bus. If it was flood, repair the drainase quickly," said him.
