President Jokowi awards highest medal to Swedish King

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) awarded the highest class of the country's Star of the Republic of Indonesia to King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden here, Monday.

The "Adipurna" medal was presented after the two leaders witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding between the two countries at the Bogor State Palace.

The award was given based on Presidential Decree Number 51/TK/2017 dated May 19, 2017.

According to a written statement from the head of orders, decorations and medals bureau, commodore Suyono Thamrin, the award was given to honor the outstanding services of the king towards the sustainability of the relations between the two countries.

It was also given as a reciprocal relationship between the two countries. Earlier, President Jokowi was given the Royal Order of the Seraphim by the King of Sweden.

The medal presentation was part of the state visit of Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf to the country. He was accompanied by Princess Silvia during the visit, which was made for the first time after 65 years of bilateral relations.
