Police, military personnel hunt for five suspected terrorists

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TUBAN -- As many as 30 police and military personnel were still hunting for five suspected terrorists who tried to shoot a police officer in Tuban district, East Java, earlier on Saturday.

"We are still looking out for the five who have escaped into the forest and paddy field. We do not know if they are terrorists," Chief of the Tuban District Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner, Fadli Samad, said on Saturday.

The police officer who became the target of the shooting escaped uninjured, he noted.

He stated that the police have sealed all accesses to the northern coastal highway in Jenu sub-district since 10.00am local time to prevent the suspects from fleeing to other areas.

"We have called the police's anti-bomb squad, Densus 88, to check the two backpacks that were left in the car," he revealed, referring to the car belonging to the suspected terrorists.

The police have sealed off the car with police plate number H H 9037 BZ.

Tens of security personnel armed with rifles, including those from the bomb-disposal team of the East Java provincial police, have examined the car.
