REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Economic, Darmin Nasution, said volatility of rupiah against the US dollar was not necessarily low after the inclusion of Chinese currency, the yuan, as global currency.

"Depending on whether we will increase trade with the yuan or keep using the US dollar. So, it is not automatic (reducing the volatility of rupiah against the US dollar)," Nasution said, in Jakarta, Tuesday (1/12).

Darmin added, the use of the yuan in international trade also could not be directly done. There were steps that must be prepared by Indonesian government and Chinese government.

Indonesia was already entering the yuan into foreign reserves. However, the foreign reserves in the form of yuan should be added, if Indonesia wanted to use the yuan in the trade.

"It takes special effort to be able to use the yuan in trade. If it happens, of course we can reduce the use of US dollars for imports and replace it with the yuan," he said.
