'Petroleum Fund' to assist oil and gas operation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The House of Representatives proposed the existence of new agency, Petroleum Fund to strengthen Indonesian oil and gas richness and data. Its purpose was to ensure government agencies cannot be easily fooled by contractors in terms of cost recovery.

Member of Commission VII of The House, Satya Wira Yudha said that Petroleum Fund would be taken from oil and gas revenue, which more than 270 trillion IDR. That is why there is valid data on oil and gas potential.

"During this, we often entrust research to foreign and local contractors. In future, Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) must be smarter than them," Yudha said recently.

He added that government also needed to choose a competent authority in oil and gas sector. They certainly must have much broader insight than investor itself. It will make the bargaining power of SKK Migas will be higher than other contractors. 

"Oil and gas sector needs quality improvement coupled with an increase in its human resources," Yudha said.

SKK Migas Spokesman, Elan Budiantoro said that the agency has 700 employees who were competent and professional in his field. It needs a firmness to talk about tender of oil and gas.
