Motives behind attacks to preachers must be revealed: Lukman

Lukman hopes security apparatuses be more serious in investigating the motives.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Religious Affairs, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin asked security apparatuses to more be serious in investigating the motives behind the attack against preachers and clerics. Recently, a series of attacks against Islamic relicious leaders had occurred.

"We hope the attack cases that happened recently make our law enforcement officers to be more serious to uncover the motives behind, not only give information but there must explanation clearly," said Lukman on Monday (Feb 12).

Lukman asked people to believe in police effort to investigate the cases thoroughly. Thus, there should be no person who provoked retaliation or vigilante action.

He also asked the people, especially religious leader to further increase their vigilance. Lukman said the security at the worship places must be improved

There were at least three attack cases against religious leader figures in the last three weeks. The first happened to Kiai Umar Basyri, the clerics at Al Hidayah Islamic boarding school (pesantren) mosque in Cicalengka, Bandung on January 27.

Then the second attack case happened to Ustaz Prawoto as commander of the Central Leaders Brigade of Islam (Persis). He died after being attacked by a neighbor who was suspected suffered a psychiatric disorder on February 1.

Third, there was an attack against student at Pesantren Al Futuhat, Garut, West Java by six unknown people. There was also a man who is troubled with his psyches hiding on the At Tawakkal Mosque Bandung City brandishing a knife.
