REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH – Aceh and Malaysia eye cooperation in tourism sector. Malaysian Tourism Director in Sumatra, Suhaimi Abu Hassan Shaari said on Thursday in Banda Aceh, he would hold a meeting with the Head of Tourism Department in Banda Aceh, Reza Pahlevi to talk about the prospect.

“We have planned several programs to increase the tourists from Malaysia to Aceh and vice versa,” he said.

Once implemented in Malaysia and Banda Aceh, the programs will benefit both regions in gaining the number of foreign tourists. “The program hopefully starts in April. The tourists coming will benefit both regions,” Shaari said accompanied by the Public Relation Manager of Tourism Malaysia, Ade Nova Zein.

Shaari is optimistic the number of foreign tourists in both regions will increase in 2012 following some events and cooperation programs with other parties. Aceh Statistical Center Agency (BPS) mentions the number of foreign tourists to Aceh in 2011 is dominated by Malaysian tourists which reach 8.132 people. The number projects an increase of 53.6 percent compared to previous year.
