REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI agreed on Wednesday to elect Perry Warjiyo as Bank Indonesia (BI) governor for the 2018-2023 term. He will replace Agus Martowardojo.

The House Commission for Finance and Banking which comprises 36 members also elected Dody Budi Waluyo as BI deputy governor to assist Perry in the next five years.

"After holding an internal meeting, all the members (of the House Commission) from 10 factions in the DPR agreed to elect Perry Warjiyo as BI governor and Dody Budi Waluyo as BI deputy governor by acclamation," Chief of the House Commission XI, Melchias Markus Mekeng said.

Perry Warjiyo was elected BI governor after the House Commission XI conducted a fit and proper test on him for five hours earlier in the day. Meanwhile, the House Commission XI conducted a fit and proper test on Dody Waluyo for three hours the day before.

Member of the House Commission XI Andreas Edy Susetyo said the vast majority of the House Commission XI members elected Perry Warjiyo BI governor for his competence in all scopes of the central bank's duties.

The same is also true with Dody Budi Waluyo who is viewed as one package with Perry Warjiyo. According to the House Commission XI, Dody Budi Waluyo is the most senior and experienced banker among three candidates for BI deputy governor. The other two candidates are Wiwiek Sisto Widayat and Doddy Zulverdi.

The House Commission XI will submit the results of the fit and proper test to the DPR leadership which will later pass on it to the DPR's Consultative Board before it is endorsed at a DPR plenary session.
