REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received Hary Tanoesoedibjo, Chairman of the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo), at the Merdeka Palace, here, on Monday. At the closed-door meeting with the president, Tanoesoedibjo invited Jokowi to deliver a keynote speech in the upcoming leadership meeting of Perindo, to be held from March 21 to 22, 2018.

Tanoesoedibjo, who owns the Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) Group, was accompanied by other leaders of Perindo, such as Safril Nasution, who is in charge of the party's organization affairs; Muhamman Yamin Tawary, who is in charge of political and public policy affairs; Ahmad Rofiq, who is the party's secretary general; and Christophorus Taufik, who is in charge of human rights and legal affairs.

Last November, Perindo had declared its support for Jokowi's bid to run for the second term in the 2019 general election.

Jokowi has been appointed by the chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Megawati Soekarnoputri, as the presidential candidate for 2019 election. Megawati called on all party members to support Jokowi with all power and resources owned by the party to win the next year's elections.

"I hereby declare that the presidential candidate of PDI Perjuangan is Joko Widodo," Megawati said in a video posted on PDI Perjuangan's official Twitter account on February 23. She made the statement  during the party's third national working meeting in Denpasar, Bali, held on the same day.
