REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- The South Sumatran provincial capital of Palembang is on the lookout for investors to develop the tourism sector, according to Mayor of Palembang Harnojoyo. Palembang has numerous interesting tourist attractions, but the city government has limited funds to carry out development; hence, investors are required, as the city will host the international sporting event of the Asian Games in August 2018.

"The Palembang city government is opening the most opportunity for investors through pure capital investment until the implementation of BOT (Build, Operate and Transfer) system. Most importantly, there is investment in the tourism sector in the face of the Asian Games 2018," Harnojoyo remarked here on Saturday.

He stated that the city had at least 18 tourist attractions to offer to the investors to develop, including the provision of boats and tents for the implementation of floating markets, transportation facilities, the development of Kemarau Island, and the construction of hotels along the Musi river banks.

"Opportunity to invest in the tourism sector in Palembang has been offered to both domestic and foreign investors, and now, we are awaiting their response," he noted.

According to Harnojoyo, the city government has invited the investors to invest in river tourism to transform the city of Palembang as the first river tourism city in Indonesia.
