REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chief of the National Police General Tito Karnavian said he has received letters of resignation from several generals who will compete in the simultaneous regional head elections scheduled for June 2018.
"Some of them have sent (letters of resignation). I will check them with the human resources development department," he stated at the National Police Headquarters here on Thursday.
Under the National Police's rule, any police general wishing to compete in regional head election must resign, he noted.
"We hope that they will retire on Feb 12 when the KPU (General Election Commission) endorses pairs of candidates to compete in the elections," he remarked.
He revealed that three high-ranking police officers will contest in the gubernatorial elections and seven middle ranking police officers will compete in the district head/mayoral elections.
The three high-ranking police officers are Inspector General Murad Ismail, Inspector General Safaruddin, and Inspector General Anton Charliyan.
Both Ismail and Safaruddin said they had conveyed their letters of resignation to the National Police's human resources development department.
Ismail will run for Maluku governor, while Safaruddin and Charliyan will run for East Kalimantan and West Java vice governors, respectively.
