KPK issues arrest warrant against Setya Novanto

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Spokesperson of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Febri Diansyah said, the anti-graft body has issued an arrest warrant against Setya Novanto as suspect. The warrant was issued for the sake of investigation on e-ID card procurement corruption case because the suspect has ignore the summons to be examined.

"Right now, team of investigators are still doing their job," Febri said at KPK office, Jakarta, on early Thursday (November 16). 

Febri said, if Novanto still has a goodwill, the House of Representatives speaker surely would surrender himself to KPK.

Novanto who is also the Golkar party chairman got 1x24 hours to surrender, Febri added.

KPK investigator came to Novanto house at Wijaya XIII Street number 19, South Jakarta, on Wednesday night. 

Until early Thursday, there was no sign of Novanto's existance in his house.

Based on the report from Republika.co.id reporter, Novanto's lawyer Fredrich Yunadi was seen at his client house.

Meanwhile, Golkar politician Mahydin said, he did not see Novanto when visiting the Golkar party chairman's house on Wednesday night.

"He was not at home. There were only his wife, servants, and his lawyer," he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Fredrich explained, Novanto took his lawyers advise to miss the summon to be questioned as suspect in e-ID card procurement graft case on the same day. Novanto's team of lawyers believed permission from the president should be aquired first.

Beside that, Fredrich said as House of Representatives speaker, Novanto has Parliamentary immunity.

Novanto has been renamed as suspect as he allegedly played a key role in a plan to swindle funds earmarked for e-ID card project and the act contributed to an estimated Rp 2.3 million in state losses.
