REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Police refused to give more statements related to firearms shipment arrived in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on last Friday (September 29) night, since it could cause a new polemic.
"I do not want to create a new polemic, just wait for Menkopolhukam statement as he is the person in charge," said Head of Public Relations of Police Headquarters, Inspector General of Police Setyo Wasisto at University of Police Science (PTIK) Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Tuesday.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Wiranto, was planned to conduct a meeting with TNI Commander, Chief of Indonesian Police, and Head of State Intelligence Agency (BIN) on Tuesday.
"This afternoon there will be a meeting, there will be no more confusion," Setyo added.
Besides the three heads of institutions, Wiranto also invited a number of other relevant parties in the meeting, such as Customs, PT Pindad and Ministry of Defense. Setyo refused to give more details.
It will be the first meeting of these institutions to discuss weapon shipment. "Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs is still discussing, so many things will be discussed," he said.
Since last Friday, public have been wondering with the information circulated in social media on the arrival of 280-caliber 40 x 46 millimeters Stand-Alone Grenade Launcher arsenals and 5,932 bullets in the cargo of Soekarno-Hatta Intenational Airport.
On Saturday, Police Public Relations Division Head Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto said the weapons belonged to his institution and the procurement is in accordance with the procedures. "It is legal, starting from planning to the auction process," he explained.
