REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police Chief Tito Karnavian has invited Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to join the investigation team in case of attack to senior investigator KPK Novel Baswedan. He said the offer was conveyed to KPK on June 16.

"We want our friends from KPK to team up with National Police and maybe form a special team to investigate Novel Baswedan's case," Tito said after meeting President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (July 31).

Tito explained, joint team of KPK and Police could investigate together and not only looking the facts. Thus, the results of the joint investigation can be used as evidence which will then be brought to court.

"The joint investigation team is not only looking for more facts, because it is not pro justicia, the results can not be directly submitted as evidence to the court. This would be an investigation team," he said.

On April 11, Novel was attacked by two suspects riding a motorbike who hurled acid on him while he was on his way home after performing the dawn, or fajr, prayer, at a mosque near his house in North Jakarta.

He suffered acid-induced injuries to his face, particularly his left eye.
