REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Leaders of Muhammadiyah Youth urged President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to form a Joint Fact Finding Team (TGPF) to uncover the case of chemical liquid attack to anti-graft body senior investigator, Novel Baswedan. The team should contain independent and credible parties.

"We are not surprised if the police refuse the formation of TGPF, so we ask the President to form it," Chairman of Muhammadiyah Youth Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak in a press release received by Republika.co.id on Saturday (July 29).

Dahnil also asked the president to be the leader of the team. The TGPF was needed since the public have lost their trust to the police in revealing the case. Moreover, police officer allegedly involved in the incident.

The allegation was based on fact finding conclusion conducted by Muhammadiyah, Kontras, LBH Jakarta, and other institutions. "The allegation must certainly be proved through a fair and honest legal process," Dahnil said.

Up to 108 days after the attack against Novel, the police have not made significant progress in solving the case. National police officials, including Chief of Police Gen. Tito Karnavian, said Novel's case is a difficult one.

Furthermore, Dahnil said before the attack, Novel has been monitored by the intelligence. "It was odd to say the terror against Novel at April 11, 2017 was missed by police intelligence surveillance," he said.

Another oddities were seen during the investigation. Dahnil mentioned the lost of figerprint in the glass filled with strong acid that was used to attack Novel. Police have given altered statements when explaining the cause. Then, three key witnesses were released because they had a strong alibi.

"There were efforts to eliminate certain evidence that could ensnare influential and high-ranking official allegedly involved in attack against Novel," Dahnil said.
