REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has believed that a request by the Special Committee of the House of Representatives (DPR) to allow Miryam S Haryani to be present at the Committee's meeting, could hamper an investigation of e-ID card corruption case.

"We have sent a letter (in response to the request). KPK believes that it is related to investigation of the case. So, there is a possible obstruction of justice," Laode M Syarif, deputy chairman of KPK, said here, Monday evening.

The House's Special Committee (Pansus) earlier sent a letter to KPK to request the presence of former lawmaker Miryam S Haryani at its meeting on Monday.

The anti-graft agency, however, rejected the request.

Miryam is now being held in detention by KPK on charge of giving false testimony at court related to investigation of electronic-ID (e-ID) card procurement corruption case implicating many lawmaker and former lawmakers .

Seven of the House's political party factions, namely from PDI-P, Golkar, Hanura, PPP, Gerindra, PAN, and Nasdem, have joined the Special Committee to inquire the performance of KPK .

"We also want to ask what they want to inquire about KPK. The object of the inquiry should be clear and specific. Is this about a specific case handling? We only heard from the media that they claim that the inquiry is part of supervision, but which supervision? Is this a prevention, coordination, supervision, monitoring or action? Is it all of them or just one of them? It's not clear. The letter to ask the presence of Miryam is not even signed by Pansus chairman, but by deputy House Speaker," Laode said.

It was also reported that Pansus would ask the National Police to help bring Miryam to the Parliament for the Pansus meeting.

General Tito Karnavian, the National Police Chief, however, responded that the Police could not interfere the matter because it concerns legal affairs. Legal experts should first give their views about this case, he said.

Earlier, KPK chief Agus Rahardjo had already said that KPK would definitely not allow Miryam to be present at the Pansus meeting .

"Never. She is in detention for investigation of her case," Agus said on Friday as quoted as saying.

Miryam has been in detention since May 1, 2017 after she was named a suspect .

The Pansus on KPK was formed after the anti graft agency refused to hand over its recorded process of Miryam investigation to the House Commission III triggering political controversy.
