REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) commented on the verdict sentenced to Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok on blasphemy case. He asked all parties to respect all the legal process and the verdict read by the judges of North Jakarta District Court.
"I ask all parties to respect all the legal process and the verdict read by the panel of judges, including to respect the legal process did by Basuki Tjahaja Purnama to appeal," said Jokowi on a press release on Tuesday (May 9).
He also stated that the society should believe in the legal mechanism existing in Indonesia. "And the most important, this is the moat important, we believe on the legal mechanism to solve the problem," said Jokowi.

It was in accordance with the principles of democratic country implemented in Indonesia in uniting different perceptions. He said the government could not intervene the legal process.
"It was how a country resolve the different perceptions. Once more, the government cannot intervene the legal processes," said him.
Jokowi also got a report from the Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo about this.
The North Jakarta District Court's panel of judges decided to detain Ahok after the court found him guilty of religious blasphemy and sentenced him to two years imprisonment on Tuesday.
