REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Village, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo expressed readiness to serve as a bridge to facilitate the efforts to find solutions for overcoming various investment barriers in the region.
"I will handle it as soon as there is a complaint. I have relatively good relations with districts and regions in the country. Moreover, I am the minister for villages, disadvantaged regions, and transmigration," the minister said in a written statement made available to Antara here on Friday.
He said that four programs announced by his ministry were welcomed by the regions.
Sound communication and approaches are needed to seek solutions to overcome the constraints faced by investors. Good relations could help to build an understanding that investment will offer a positive impact on the regions concerned, he added.
He admitted that investors often complained of regional regulations. Yet, he believed that the complaints could be tackled soon.
"My main task is to (serve as a) bridge (to tackle the) arising problems, especially in the regions. I think we can solve the problem if we sit together to discuss it. Such a problem should have been solved because the government has issued economic policy packages," he remarked.
The ease of doing investment in Indonesia has been improving, raising its rating to 91 in 2016 from 106 in 2015.
According to the minister, the Indonesian ease of doing business rating will continue to improve if all elements of society take part in creating a conducive investment climate.
In the meantime, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the Malaysia Committee Tigor M. Siahaan lauded Minister Sandjojo's initiative and approach.
The favorable business climate that the minister was creating is positive news not only for the investors of both countries but also for those at the governmental level in Malaysia.
"There are many challenges in business. As a ministerial-level official, he directly goes to the field to handle problems being faced by businesspersons. The minister's role is very important," he remarked.
President Joko Widodo has assigned 12 ministers to serve as liaison officers for investment matters. The president gave the special assignment in an effort to seek investment opportunities as well as to identify and solve problems that hinder investment in Indonesia. They should guard and ensure that the investment process is realized.
The village, disadvantaged regions, and transmigration minister is assigned as a special liaison for investment from Malaysia. On April 20-21, 2017, Sandjojo had initiated the holding of an Indonesia-Malaysia Business Networking session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
