REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto has revealed that perpetrator of terror attack in Stasi Santo Yosep Catholic Church, Medan, North Sumatra learned to assemble bomb from the internet.

The suspect, identified as IAH (18), often surfed the internet to find informations related to radicalism act, including homemade bomb. “He seek information while visiting his brother internet cafe,” Wiranto said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday (29/8).

In IAH's room, police found bomb making materials, such as copper wire, gunpowder, battery, and light bulbs. Wiranto confirmed IAH ownership of six pipe bombs. The pipe are filled with gunpowder and matches. IAH, a son of a lawyer, carried that low explosive bomb in his backpack to Catholic church located at Jl Dr Mansyur, Medan Selayang.

The bomb failed to explode and injured the perpetrator. IAH intended to kill Father Albert S Pandiangan with the bombs. The youngster then attacked Albert with ax and knife, making the priest suffered a light wound in his left arm.

Medan police chief Sr. Comr. Mardiaz Kusin Dwihananto said IAH is still shocked and traumatized after the churchgoers caught him. His condition made the police unable to dig more information about the possibility of him having direct link to terrorist network.

So far, IAH is named as the only suspect of the teror occured during the Sunday mass (28/8). He admited a stranger offered him Rp 10 million to commit the attack. “This attack was inspired by similar terror abroad,” Mardiaz said.
