REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Attorney General HH Prasetyo said here on Wednesday that 14 death-row drug convicts who are to be executed soon have already been isolated in Nusakambangan, Cilacap, Central Java.

"They have been isolated," he said adding that final preparations are now being made and families of the convicts have been gathered and foreign embassies concerned have also been informed.

Prasetyo said he is now waiting for the final progress of the preparations for the implementation of the executions.

"All have been ready at their positions including security officers from the police force and family members," he said.

He admitted he has received information from the minister of foreign affairs some days ago that the embassies of foreign citizens who are to be executed have already been informed about the plan.

"I hope all parties would understand it including lawyers of the convicts," he said.

He said he hoped they could help although they might not yet be able to fully support his decision.

"What we would do is fully for the interest of the nation," he said.

The Attorney General's Office has so far not yet officially announced the names of the drug convicts to be executed or when the execution would be carried out.

Based on information those who are among the convicts to be executed and have been in isolated chambers in Batu prison in Nusakambangan include Freddy Budiman (Indonesian), Merri Utami (Indonesian) , Zulfiqar Ali (Pakistan), Gurdip Singh (India), dan Onkonkwo Nonso Kingsley (Nigeria).
