REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko discussed efforts to boost bilateral trade.
"We have discussed the result of trade relations in the recent three years. We found an increase of 1.5 percent compared to three years ago," Semashko stated here on Monday.
Semashko met Kalla at the Vice President's office in Jakarta to follow up on the earlier visit of President Alexander Lukashenko to Indonesia on March 2013.
Semashko stated that Indonesia and Belarus had agreed to intensify bilateral trade that can potentially reach US$1 trillion.
"At the same time, we are not satisfied with the current trade value. We believe that this value should be increased in future," Semashko noted.
Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Belarus during the period between 2013 and 2016 was valued at US$235 million.
Crude palm oil and rubber are the main commodities imported by Belarus from Indonesia. Meanwhile, Indonesia imported potassium and agricultural tools from Belarus.
Belarus is a country located in Eastern Europe, with a total population of 9.4 million.
Several key products of Belarus, include heavy machinery, computer components, and trucks.
